Born in Buenos Aires City, on July the 28 Th. Professional lawyer, three children, a Doberman dog, opera and classical music lover, as well as theatre and good cinema.

Photography was a decision born from his desire.

"My life has always been a contradiction, between what I wanted to be and could not and what regretfully, I have been… still there is more to come…" Steinberg replies.

"The first encounter, lets say rendezvous with photography was unexpected, as every mysterious thing that surprises a child… I remember playing with a toy camera, experiencing with film developers, it really was chemistry, almost magical." he states vigorously.

FIRST CHAPTER

"During 1964, I joined the Buenos Aires Photo Club, this approach to photography and the gradual learning of it, took place during the week ends , when we went out to shoot some film, a perfect excuse to meet people, make friends, while I learnt secrets very well kept by others… today I keep mine and I share them with friends."

Through that period, I received good advises from the ones that were the very true teachers: Anatole Saderman, Pedro Otero and Feliciano Jeanmart, among others.

It always been passionfully, participating in monthly contests and national photography exhibits, may be because of the competitive spirit of the Photo Club, or mine than of the artistic side or search of my own." The photographer asserts.

In 1969 and 1970 he is granted with the first awards as a photographer in the National Exhibit of Quilmes Photo Club and in the Photo Cinema Athenaeum of Rosario, well known Argentinean exhibitions of that period.

In the meantime, he starts studying Law, though he recognizes that: "It was not my vocation… but that's the way it goes in terms of elections, difficult. It works as trail and error, but in spite of that, I make a living as a lawyer."

He was moved by strong curiosity, to know all about photography, almost as an autodidact. He seldom took courses-" All consisted in trying back and forth."

The recurrent question he asked himself was if photography was a hobby…a kind of derogatory formula of those who place themselves from the outside of the picture or did not have the opportunity to disclose the infinite possibilities of creation within that discipline.

Art or Hobby: The endless controversy with friends and relatives came out as an answer for the question. "My aunts said to me: What a nice hobby you have…"My artistic goals were offended by those words.

The controversy around, the status of Photography, was replaced by a great quantity of friends from the Photo Club: Carlos Bosch, Juan Carlos Villarreal, Miguel Caprara, Raúl Villalba, the great master Amleto Bocci and others . They helped to generate a bond that enabled me to get more involved with the task.

The accomplishment of constructing fantastic images was, what he dreamt of from the beginning of his career. It was them when he was granted with awards in the National Argentinean exhibits of the Pampean and Olavarria Photo Clubs, for his piece of work: " The wizard of desire", a far out visual creation fort that time and for himself, in terms of style.

  SECOND CHAPTER

Though family matters, separated him from photography during sixteen years, by 1997 he goes back to it by the hand of many friends.

Mature, with a different professional background and stronger energy, he returns to his old group of friends that got bigger with the presence of new ones, emotional, talented and sincere people. The debate between digital and laboratory photography was installed in the Argentinean photography arena. Steinberg was in the second group, attached to hand processing and film developing in the lab. For years he investigated Ansel Addams techniques, experiencing with whichever film and developer that came into his hands; preparing his own formulas and spending hours in the laboratory. Today he still does it, feeling a cast of a bohemian halo in the dark room, developing film and printing color negatives, while he listens to opera pieces.

He takes part into the Manichean controversy and follows the advice of his friend Nicolás Berlingieri, taking classes to start experiencing with digital images from analogical photography. By that time he was introduced to Ricardo Martiniuk, a true "maestro" and friend who teaches him to improve the touch up and digital creation techniques.

Currently he produces color and Black and White digital photography, and at the same time he keeps going on with the creation of analogical monochrome images. Steinberg says that for sure he would never discard them.

In May 2002, he presents his first individual exhibit entitled: " From visions and fictions" at the Buenos Aires Photo Club, keeping the same mane for his Web Site.

He goes back into an intensive activity participating in national and international contests and exhibitions. In house ranking, winner in color paper category, of the Buenos Aires Photo Club during 2001 and 2002. By 2001, he is granted with an award for monochrome photography.

In 2002 he was awarded by the Argentinean Federation of Photography, with the honor of Argentinean Photographer Artist, and during 2003 FIAP Artist, granted by the International Federation of Photographic Art, (Federation International de L ´Art Photografique), AFIAP:

During 2003 he was able to achieve an old dream from his adolescence, being granted with the Great Honor Condor Award, of the Argentinean Federation of Photography Exhibition, in the digital category for his production: "Giselle", an impressionist ballet icon.

Steinberg says: "All of my images exist in some place, real dreams and fantasies that cross my mind. I try to modify reality, from my inner vision, sometimes, it is loaded with ruddiness and dreamy escapes, trying to print my emotions and sensations in a creative way, generating a message that represents my way of feeling."

He is after to catch moments of time in Black and White, without modifying them in the film of a direct shot. The creation of fantastic characters and surrealistic sceneries is a task, done in the digital lab. "I feel great pleasure obtaining ballet images impelled with movement, theatre, daily ones of simple people of my land, neighborhoods and of my city. "

His goal is to accomplish shocking images, as well as impressionist colorful ones with effects that invite the observer to exercise imagination, trying to surprise the spectator.

..."May be I sound pretentious or exaggerated, sometimes extremely grandiloquent, harsh and strict, but sensitive, affectionate and sincere: This is myself portrait. "He states.

Carlos Foix, Argentinean photographer, says: "The photographs we create reflect our selves, is easy to find out the way we are when looking at them…"

At the present Steinberg, is working on his next exhibit on ballet photography and on a series of test shots on railways ……" It reminds me of the train journeys when I was an infant".

"Digital techniques, allow me to "construct" the landscapes of my fantasy, creating scenarios and effects ".

Referring to photographs: ..."all portraits are in a way self portraits, that reflect the spectator".

Nevertheless "the eye is not completely satisfied with what can be seen". We have the need to introduce everything in the picture, in every image, our own perceptions and experiences.

The final product of my artistic creation is like a mirror where "the other", "the observer", introduces his experiences.

These words are dedicated to all the lovers of Art Photography; in the end it is a way of introducing himself to others.

"Creation is unlimited… time is the only limit."
